You may not believe this, but there was once a time before I cared much about pictures. I had a very cheap camera and hardly ever used it. Then, on November 18th, 2007, I had my twins. After they were born, I found myself taking hundreds of pictures of them, and emailing them in droves to my loved ones. That was even before I had a Facebook account! Seems like a lifetime ago now. I have become more and more obsessed with photography, insomuch as I became a photographer! But it all started on this day... The first one to make her appearance was our daughter, Sydney. I was able to deliver the twins naturally, so after pushing out Sydney, I had to take a breather! 20 minutes later, Benjamin was born. We went from zero...to one...to TWO babies in a matter of 30 minutes! Giving birth to TWO babies at once really works up an appetite!! The babies seemed to enjoy being close at first...after all, it's all they knew for 9 months! There were a few times during our hospital stay, however, that they enjoyed some alone time....first with Sydney... then with Benjamin... After only TWO days, they said we could go home. WE WERE NOT READY!!! Could they really think we were going to be able to know what to do with these two, little people all on our own??? They were both 5 and 1/2 pounds each, which is big for twins, but little for a baby! They both fit in the 15 pound weight limit portacrib next to our bed. We could've fit a couple more babies into the pack-n-play! Thank God for my husband, Matt, who was my rock during the first couple of weeks (and still today, of course). We bottle fed them from the beginning, so he was up every couple hours along with the rest of us every night. He had to go to work every day (which he has little recollection of now) and he helped me stay sane. By the way, sometimes it would take 30 minutes or more to get one burp out of Ben. He was NOT an easy baby! And so we were now a family of FOUR. Because their due date was early December, I had bought these in preparation months before :) So now, as a photographer, when I go back to some old photos to do re-edits on them, I can also go down memory lane and see how far we have come, and how blessed I am to have these wonderful people in my life! XOXO,
Shauna
